Suburban Bureaucratic Mentality Poem

The public parks and pools are policed as though they were private clubs,
aggressively, even hostilely, turning away non-members/residents,
reaching the ridiculous extreme of requiring proof of residency,
creating a booming business in fake IDs for seven-year olds




Health Care Bureaucrats

She was oblivious to the obvious irony
when she asked the patient, a health care professional,
if she had made any advance directives,
when the patient was having an ingrown toenail removed

The paper pusher at the psychiatric hospital
refused to accept a patient brought there by ambulance
because the patient had signed only a consent to be transported,
not a consent to be admitted
Perhaps he thought she consented to be transported there
for a sight-seeing tour or the fine cuisine
