снова в Москве! Джон Вудсворт Да и трудно поверить — Я снова в Москве! А как же измерить Все чувства, воспоминания, впечатления, которые возникли у меня На душе?! О Москве мне лишь снилось Уже девять лет... Да и всё изменилось — Вот памятника Дзержинскому, бассейна "Москва", даже "улицы Горького" Уже нет. Не к лучшему, что ли, Что вместо таких Дали новые роли Лубянке, Храму Христа Спасителя, "Тверской-Ямской" и похожим На них?! Круглосуточно в лавках Всё всем продают... На столичных прилавках Товары "Сейко", "Панасоник", "Эстее Лаудер" да и "Мультилок", "Мальборо" Ждут. Иностранные марки Поражают глаза... Искать же подарки, Сделанные в Москве, в Петербурге, на Волге, на Кавказе, в Сибири Почти зря. Прогрессу вообще-то, Конечно, я рад... Потерялось же где-то То чувство культуры, истории, России, что было лет девять Назад. Не всё стало грустным... Жизнь всё же идет, Надеюсь, по руслам Дальновидящей мудрости, сердечности русского духа Вперед. Москва 22-23 сентября 1998 г. |
I'm in Moscow again! John Woodsworth It's hard to believe: I'm in Moscow once more! But how to perceive All the feelings, reminiscences, impressions, which have welled up in my soul At its core? I've been dreaming about Moscow Nine years off and on... And so much has changed now — The Dzerzhinsky monument, the big swimming pool, even the signs for Gorky Street, Are all gone. It might be for the better, That instead of all those A new role altogether Has been given Lubianka, the Church of Christ the Saviour, Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street1 and others, I suppose. From twelve o'clock to twelve Shops stay open late… And on Moscow's store shelves Seiko, Panasonic, Estée Lauder, Multilock, Marlboro and many other products for customers Wait. So much foreign presence Is overwhelming in scope… But to find home-grown presents Made in Moscow, or Petersburg, or on the Volga, or in the Caucasus, or in Siberia, there's almost No hope. While some kind of progress Is welcome, I know, Something's lost in the process — That feeling of culture, of history, of Russia, that I could still feel here nine years Ago. But it's not all deploring… Life here is not dead, And I hope that it's forging With the far-sighted wisdom and fervour of the great Russian spirit Ahead.
