Book Reviews
Review by Marie Delgado Travis Lusty, gutsy, delicious poetry. Gabriela Anaya Valdepeña delights, not only the "less-than-casual" eavesdropper. She satisfies the secret voyeur in us, as well, with the graphic sensuality, illusive dreams and wit-filled wisdom of women who love too much -- and perhaps, too often. Gabriela's English poems are intelligent, stylish, varied and engaging. What I’d wish to see since there are Spanish translation of poems interspersed throughout her work is: why translate a handful of poems and not all? In the alternative, the translated poems could well be showcased in a separate chapter. As presented, they tend to interrupt the book's otherwise sexy flow. On the plus side, Gabriela and her translators are quite masterful and I take the bilingual samples as a sign of more good things to come from their collaboration. Highly recommended.
